Sancho de Ávila Mortuary
The project developed at the Sancho de Ávila Funeral Home in Barcelona in 2020 represents an acoustic intervention aimed at improving environmental comfort and spatial quality in an especially sensitive emotional environment. In funeral buildings, architecture and acoustics play a fundamental role in creating serene, welcoming, and respectful spaces, where user well-being depends largely on the atmosphere created.
In this intervention, Ideatec Advanced Acoustic Solutions implemented a combination of acoustic solutions using the Slats Lamas and Idealux FL systems, integrated into different interior areas of the building. The combination of both systems significantly improved sound absorption and reduced reverberation, creating more balanced and comfortable environments for families, visitors, and staff.
The main challenge of the project was to address large spaces and reflective surfaces, common in this type of building, where excessive reverberation can create a cold and uncomfortable sound perception. The acoustic intervention sought to provide a sense of calm and privacy, favoring a more intimate and human experience within the architectural ensemble.
The application of Slats Lamas allowed for the incorporation of an acoustic treatment with a strong aesthetic presence, adding rhythm, texture, and visual warmth to the interior spaces. This system combines architectural design and acoustic performance, integrating naturally into contemporary projects where materiality and construction detail play a relevant role.
For its part, Idealux FL complemented the acoustic conditioning through solutions integrated into the ceilings, contributing to optimized sound absorption and improved speech intelligibility in ceremony rooms, common areas, and transit spaces. The combination of both systems created a complete, efficient acoustic solution coherent with the building's architecture.
The Sancho de Ávila Funeral Home, located in Barcelona, is a benchmark within the city's network of funeral spaces, where functionality, design, and environmental comfort must coexist in a balanced way. The acoustic intervention directly contributes to improving the user experience, creating quieter, more welcoming, and emotionally comfortable spaces.
This project reinforces Ideatec's experience in developing acoustic solutions for public and institutional spaces with high architectural sensitivity. The work at the Sancho de Ávila Funeral Home demonstrates how applied acoustics can be integrated discreetly and elegantly within interior design, providing well-being, privacy, and environmental quality through high-performance technical solutions.
