Universidad UCT Chris Hani – Acoustic Solution with High 16 in South Africa (2022)

The project developed for UCT Chris Hani University in South Africa in 2022 represents an acoustic intervention oriented toward improving sound comfort and environmental quality in a contemporary university setting. In high-activity educational buildings, acoustics are a fundamental element in ensuring spaces are suitable for learning, communication, and concentration, directly contributing to the well-being and performance of both students and faculty.

In this intervention, Ideatec Advanced Acoustic Solutions implemented the High 16 system, an acoustic solution designed to optimize sound absorption and reduce reverberation in high-intensity interior spaces. Thanks to its technical features, the system significantly improves speech intelligibility and generates more balanced and comfortable environments within contemporary educational spaces.

The architectural project was developed by Imibala Architect and Marcus Smit Architects, proposing a modern university environment where functionality, design, and environmental well-being are part of a unified architectural strategy. In this context, the acoustic conditioning had to be integrated efficiently into the building's design, maintaining the visual identity and spatial flexibility of the various areas.

The main challenge of the project was to control reverberation and ambient noise in classrooms, common areas, and circulation spaces, where constant activity and reflective surfaces can negatively impact the learning experience. The incorporation of the High 16 system allowed for effective action on the acoustic behavior of these spaces, promoting clearer communication and an environment better suited for concentration.

The installation was carried out by UCT Installer and Scheltema & Co., ensuring a precise execution aligned with the technical and architectural requirements of the project.

UCT Chris Hani University reflects a commitment to educational spaces adapted to current learning and collaboration needs, where acoustic comfort becomes a key tool for improving the environmental quality of buildings.

In addition to its acoustic properties, High 16 provides aesthetic versatility and ease of architectural integration, allowing it to adapt to different spatial configurations while maintaining a contemporary and functional image.
